Ingredients
- 1/4 cup regular or olive oil mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp real maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 Granny Smith apple - peeled, cored, and chopped (divided in half
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 tbsp real maple syrup
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup Italian or garlic and herb bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 4 tbsp olive oil, divided
- hamburger buns, split (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
1.Make the burger sauce.Whisk mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, and the Dijon mustard together in a small bowl; set aside.
2.Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a skillet over medium heat; cook and stir the onion and half the chopped apple in the hot oil until soft, 7 to 10 minutes. Set aside.
3.Mix the remaining uncooked apple, the ground chicken, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, Italian seasoning,bread crumbs egg, salt, and pepper together in bowl. Shape the burger mixture into 5-6 balls; the mixture will be loose, but that is okay.
4.Heat 2 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the chicken balls into the hot oil and flatten with the back of flat spatula to create a patty. Cook until nicely brown on one side and then flip and cook the other side until cooked through, about 5 minutes per side
5.To assemble, place the chicken burgers on buns; top with the grilled apple and onions. Pour some burger sauce over the top of each burger or serve burgers with onion mixture and burger sauce without the bun
