Ingredients
- Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 2 1/4 cups light brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 3 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup boiling water
- 3 3/4 cups confectioners sugar
- 1 stick of butter, softened
- 3-4 Tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour two 9" layer pans.
In large mixing bowl, cream butter until smooth. Add brown sugar and eggs. Beat with mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and chocolate, then baking soda and salt. Add flour alternately with sour cream, beating until smooth. Pour in boiling water, stirring with spoon until blended. Pour batter into layer pans and bake approx 30 minutes or until done. Cool completely.
Frosting:
Combine sugar, butter, milk and vanilla in a large bowl. Beat at medium speed 1-2 min until creamy. Add chocolate and beat until well blended. If necessary add more milk 1 Tbsp at a time to reach desired spreading consistently.
