FRIED DONUTS

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 pkgs. dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 1/4 c. milk, scalded
  • 5 c. flour
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. raisins
  • oil for frying

Preparation

Step 1

Scald milk & in large bowl, pour over sugar & butter. Cool to lukewarm & add yeast that has been dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water (temp. 110 deg) Add 1/2 of the flour and beat well. Beat eggs until thick. Add to mixture & mix well. Add remaining ingredients. Knead dough for 15 min. Cover and let rise until double in bulk. Punch down lightly and let it rise again. Form dough into donut size balls. Heat shortening or oil to 375 deg. Fry until brown on all sides. Roll in sugar. Cool and serve.
SAME RECIPE CAN BE USED FOR BABKA. Instead of frying place in well butered tube pan. Let dough rise in pan until double in bulk. Bake 45 minutes in 350 oven.
