Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 tbsp. shortening
  • 4 to 4 1/1 cups all-purpose flour
  • Topping
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in water.
Add milk, sugar, salt and shortening, and 2 cups flour; beat until smooth.
Stir in enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough.
Knead 6 to 8 minutes.
Place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise about 1 hour.
Punch down and shape into 15 ovals, 5.5" round by 1/8" thick.

Heat 3-4 in. of oil to 375 in deep fryer.
Fry one at a time, 3 minutes per side or until golden brown. Drain.
Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture while warm.
