Ingredients

    cups flour

  • 2

    tbsp white sugar

  • 2

    tsp baking powder

  • 1/2

    tsp baking soda

  • 1/2

    tsp salt

  • 1

    tbsp grated lemon zest

  • 1/2

    cup butter, cubed

  • 3/4

    cup chopped walnuts

  • 1/2

    cup raisins

  • 3/4

    cup buttermilk

  • 2

    tbsp buttermilk

  • 2

    tbsp white sugar

  • 2

    tbsp chopped walnuts

Directions

In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and lemon peel. With a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Mix in all but 2 tbsp of nuts and raisins. mix in buttermilk with fork Gather dough into a ball and knead for about 2 min on lightly floured board Roll or pat out 3/4" thick. With a chefs knife cut into 3" triangles. Place, spaced 1" apart, on a greased baking sheet. Brush tops with remaining 1 tbsp buttermilk; sprinkle with remaining sugar and nuts. Bake in center of 425 oven about 15 min. or until nicely browned. Serve warm with butter or jam.
