Homemade Mustard (FN.ca)

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons mustard powder
  • 1/2 cup yellow mustard seeds
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

In a saucepan, whisk mustard powder, mustard seeds and water. Set aside. In another saucepan combine remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Whisk this mixture into the mustard mixture. Bring this combined mixture to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Pour into a stainless bowl and let stand for 2 to 3 hours. Put mixture into a blender and pulse twice. Pour into a sterile jar and let stand at room temperature over night. Refrigerate.

Yield: 1 cup (250 ml)
