Portuguese Breakfast Puffs- Mrs. Angelo

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup soft shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 6 tablespoons melted butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix shortening, sugar and egg. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and stir in alternately with milk. Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately roll in the melted butter, then roll in mixture of 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
