Angel Biscuits

buttermilk= 1 c milk and 1 tbs lemon juice, allow to stand before use.

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1/4 c water
  • 2 1/2 c plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/8 c sugar
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1 c buttermilk

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside.
Mix dry ingredients in the order given. Cutting in the shortening last. Stir in buttermilk and yeast mix. Blend thoroughly.
Turn dough onto a large floured board and knead lightly. Cut with a biscuit cutter and place in a greased pie pan. Refrigerate until ready to use. Bring dough to room temperature and allow to rise for 1 hour. Pop into a 400* oven and bake until lightly browned, 15-20 minutes.
