  • 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/2" thick
  • 2 apples, braeburn; peeled, cored, and sliced 1/2" thick
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon dark rum, optional
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • half and half
  • sugar
  • Streusal:
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter

Preparation

Step 1

1. Roll out pie dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

2. Combine all filling ingredients and mound onto center of dough.

3. COmbnie flour, nuts, sugars, cinnamon and salt for streusal topping. Cut in butter.

4. Sprinkle generously over filling and fold edges of dough around the filling. Brush dough with half and half, sprinkle with sugar.

5. Bake at 400 degrees 40-50 minutes, until golden.

Notes: Subbed splenda for half of the sugar in the filling and all of the white sugar in the streusal. Also subbed almonds for walnuts. Delicous and easy! This was really very good Was a tad too sweet, would cut down next time. But very good - and good with vanilla ice cream. Not very attractive, however.
