Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- 2 cups brown sugar (1/2 lb.)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup shortening (Crisco butter flavored)
- 2 heaping teaspoon baking powder (Clabber Girl is best)
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 heaping teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 heaping teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs, beaten
Preparation
Step 1
Mix flour, sugar, salt and shortening until crumbly; reserve 1/2 cup for topping. To remainder, add all dry ingredients and mix well. Add milk and eggs, mix well. Pour into 2 greased and floured 8 inch cake pans or 1 (9 x 14) inch pan. Top with reserved crumbs. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Serve warm. To reheat individual slices put in microwave 10 seconds.
