Snickerdoodles - Cake Mix
By Addie
This sweet little cookie with the whimsical name originated in 19th-century New England and has become an American classic. In this recipe, cake mix provides convenience to the traditional version, but the method of rolling the dough in sugar and cinnamon before baking has been kept.
Ingredients
- 1 package Betty Crocker SuperMoist white cake mix
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Preparation
Step 1
Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick cookie sheets). Mix cake mix, butter and egg in large bowl with spoon until dough forms (some dry mix will remain).
Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Mix sugar and cinnamon in small bowl. Roll balls in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set. Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack.
Expert Tips:
French vanilla cake mix is a great stand-in for the white cake mix.
For Super Snickerdoodles, shape dough into 1 1/2-inch balls and place them 3 inches apart on the cookie sheet; bake 12 to 14 minutes. You’ll get about 26 large cookies.

It is a bit too sweet, but for a tasty cookie in a pinch, you can't beat these! I would reduce the sugar by half next time and increase the cinnamon by half. I love cinnamon! These were yummy. Made 20. Would definitely make again...it is a great use of cake mix! Oh and I did add 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar-not sure that it made a difference, but it dd not hurt it either, so I would add again next time just in case....
Made these with 2 sticks of butter, followed the rest of the recipe. Wow...buttery and incredibly good. Spread like a big cookies should with the extra butter add. Baked at exactly 11 minutes. Keeper in this household.
These are awesome and easy to make.
Very easy and quick for those times you need to get it done fast. Cooking time may need to be extended for a minute or so, but watch they don't get too brown on the bottom. Next time I will add the cream of tartar to see how big a difference it makes. I got a lot of compliments on them.
These are awesome!! Very simple and very good!! They even come out looking like the picture shows!
The recipe was good, very tasty and Snickerdoodly, but the dough was a little too sticky and it made it really hard to roll in the cinnamon sugar. The second time I made them I added the butter little at a time and didn't let the dough get super sticky, and it made it a lot easier.
Very easy and very yummy! I added a little bit of cream of tartar to give them a more authentic Snickerdoodle flavor. I will definitely make these again. I made regular size cookies and ended up with about 30.
Very easy and very yummy! I added a little bit of cream of tartar to give them a more authentic Snickerdoodle flavor. I will definitely make these again. I made regular size cookies and ended up with about 30. SUPER EASY, soft and chewy. Mine made about 2 dozen cookies. Will have to keep this recipe on hand for quick, easy, and yummy Snickerdoodles!!!
My daughter always makes these cookies!! They are so good and easy! For Christmas we decided to change it up a bit...instead of white cake mix we used chocolate; and instead of cinnamon we used crushed candy canes...SOOOOOOO GOOD!!
This is a really easy and quick way to make some excellent cookies. Since I am a lover of brown sugar, I added 1 1/2 packed cup of brown sugar to the cake mis and sifted it with an old style sifter to mix the brown sugar with the cake mix. I just went up to 1/3 cup of oil to account for the extra. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and another 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to the sugar cinnamon mix to roll the cookies in also. Makes them even better!!
These were so simple and were delicious! The only problem was they only made about 2 dozen for a regular size cookie. maybe 1/2" would yield 4 dozen. but definitely worth making! They will be gone in no time!
It was so easy I felt like I was cheating! We added a little more cinnamon after the first batch cooled. The kids ate them up! Loved them!
These were So Good, I just made a recipe from a box for Snickerdoodles and they turned out alright- But from now on I will definitely make these as they were So much easier and tasted way better than the box ones. I did add some cinn/sugar to the dough recipe, yummy.
