Grandma's Italian Meatball Chocolate Cookies

Ingredients

  • Frosting:
  • 7 c flour
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 1/2 T baking soda
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 c cocoa
  • 12 oz semi-sweet choco chips
  • 1/2 c chopped walnuts
  • 1 c baking raisins
  • 3 1/4 c melted (and cooled) Crisco
  • 3 eggs plus milk to make 3 cups
  • milk
  • confectionary sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven 350 degrees

Whisk the dry ingredients together and mix well. If you want you can adjust the spices and cocoa to give it a bit more flavor, I usually measure them slightly more than the recipe calls for. Add eggs and cooled Crisco and blend. Blend in chips, nuts and raisins (you can also adjust these amounts to more). Roll into small "meatballs" and bake for about 10-12 minutes, don't overbake.

Cool completely on wire rack and then frost. Glaze with a mixture of milk and enough confectionary sugar to make a runny paste. Roll the cooled cookies into the glaze mixture and place on cookie sheets to try without touching cookie to cookie or you can drizzle over in two directions to make it more decorative.

Chocolate baked goods always taste better the next day! Makes about 60 cookies.
