Easy Scalloped Potatoes

It takes only 15 minutes to prepare this creamy, comforting potato dish for the oven.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds baking potatoes, thinly sliced, divided
  • 4 oz Cheddar cheese, grated, (about 1 cup) divided
  • 2 small onions, thinly sliced, divided
  • 2 Tablespoons butter or margarine, divided
  • 2 Tablespoons flour, divided
  • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper, divided
  • 1 cup milk

Preparation

Step 1


Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Butter 2-quart baking dish.

Layer 1/3 of potatoes, 1/3 of cheese, 1/2 of the onions, 1 Tablespoon butter, 1 Tablespoon flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon thyme, 1/8 teaspoon pepper.

Repeat layering with 1/3 of the potatoes, 1/3 of the cheese, the remaining onions, butter, flour, salt, thyme and pepper. Place remaining potatoes on top. Pour milk over. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.

Cover and bake 45 minutes. Uncover, bake until potatoes are tender and liquid is almost absorbed - about 20 minutes.

Heat broiler. Broil top of potatoes until golden brown and crispy -
1 to 2 minutes.
