Cabbage Rolls

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1 c cooked white rice
  • 1 lb medium or regular ground beef
  • 1 T brown sugar
  • 1 T lemon juice or vinegar
  • 48 oz tomato juice
  • savoy cabbage



Step 1

In a steamer, steam cabbage until limp. Combine egg, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, onion, thyme, mix well. Add meat and rice and mix together. Place meat mixture in the centre of each leaf. Fold sides of each leaf over meat, roll up tightly. Place rolls in large dish.

Blend together brown sugar, vinegar and tomato juice. Pour over cabbage rolls until rolls are covered. Bake at 350 for 1 1/4 hours

* Double recipe and freeze one batch
