Easy Challah 1
Favorite bread recipe
- 2 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees)
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup honey
- 4 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 eggs ( two in the bread 1 for on top)
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 8 cups unbleached all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional)
In a large bowl, sprinkle yeast over water. Beat in honey, oil, 2 eggs, and salt. Add flour one at a time, beating after each addition, graduating to kneading with hands as dough thickens. Knead until smooth and elastic and no longer sticky, adding flour as needed. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise 1 1/2 hours or until dough has doubled.
punch down the risen dough and turn out on floured surface, Divide in half and knead each half for 5 minutes. Either make in a round ball of divid each ball into 3 long snakes and braid. Cover with damp cloth and let rise 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 375.
Beat remaining egg and brush each bread. Sprinkle with poppy seeds (optional).
Bake for 40 minutes . Bread should have a hollow sound when thumped on. Cool at least 1 hour. Can freeze.
