My favorite cream of wheat desert that Mama made. Comfort food at it's best when it's served hot, a cool summer desert when served chilled.
- 2 cups milk
- 3 Tbsp cream of wheat
- 1 tsp Vanilla sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 egg separated into yolk and white
- Jam/Preserves of choice (optional)
Bring milk with sugar and vanilla sugar to a boil.
Add 3 Tbsp cream of wheat slowly, stirring constantly.
Continue to slow boil until thickened, stirring constantly.
Incorporate egg yolk with small amount of cream of wheat before adding the yolk into the pot and continuing to mix constantly until brought to a boil.
Beat egg whites until stiff. Combine with cooked cream of wheat mixture, and garnish with fruit preserves. Tastes good hot or cold.
