Rosemary's (Auntie Margaret's Prize-Winning) Gingerbread

Ingredients

  • 1 lb plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon (small) salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Bicarb of Soda
  • 8 oz brown sugar
  • 6 oz marg.
  • 3/4 lb treacle or syrup (or mixed)
  • 1/2 pint milk
  • 1 egg

Preparation

Step 1

Mix all dry ings. together. Warm fat, sugar and treacle or syrup in pan (not hot). Warm milk, beat egg. Combine together. Mix well. Bake 350 (moderate) 1 1/2 hrs or until cooked.
