Ingredients
- Savory Pastry:
- 8 oz. bulk pork sausage
- 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 3/4 cup chicken broth
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 cups cubed cooked chicken
- 1/4 cup frozen peas
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 2-3 tablespoons ice cold water
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Filling:
In saucepan, brown sausage, drain. In same saucepan, melt butter. Blend in flour, salt, & pepper. Stir in broth and milk. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Cook 1 minute more. Add chicken, sausage, and peas. Heat through. Top with savory pastry.
Savory Pastry:
Combine flour, celery seed, and paprika in small mixing bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal. Sprinkle with water, 1 tablespoon at a time while mixing with a fork until dough begins to stick together. Press into a ball, roll out to 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut slits in center.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, until crust begins to brown.
