Mudrica (St. Joseph's Sawdust)

In addition to elaborate altars celebrating St. Joseph’s Day at church, many families pay tribute to the Sicilian carpenter saint by sprinkling this flavorful bread crumb “sawdust” over pasta.

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup white bread crumbs from day-old bread
• 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
• 3 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
• 2 tablespoons pine nuts, toasted
• 2 tablespoons dried currants
• 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1 pinch chopped fresh oregano leaves
• 1 pinch salt

Preparation

Step 1

•Put all the ingredients into the work bowl of a food processor and pulse 4 or 5 times or until the mixture is well combined. Serve over pasta.
