Buttermilk Scones with Dries Berries

Ingredients

  • Glaze:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 Tablespoons butter, chilled
  • 3/4 cup craisins or dried blueberries
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat oven to 400. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add margarine and butter and beat until well blended.

2. Add dried fruit and orange zest. Pour in buttermilk and mix until blended.

3. Gather dough into ball and divide in half.

4. On lightly floured surface, roll into two circles. Approximately 1/2 in to 3/4 inch thick.

5. Cut each into 8 wedges.

6. For glaze; combine cream, cinnamon, and sugar. Set aside.

7. Bake scones on lightly greased baking stone for 12-15 minutes or until golden.

8. Remove from oven and brush with glaze.
