- 3 pounds McIntosh apples, quartered, cored
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon red-hot candies
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 pinch salt

Step 1
*1*.In a Dutch oven, combine apples, cider, and cinnamon candies. Bring to a boil; reduce the heat and simmer, partially covered, for 25 minutes, until the apples soften and break down, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon to break up apples.
*2*.Stir in sugar, lemon juice, and salt and simmer 5 minutes to thicken slightly. Press apple mixture through a food mill or, for a chunky sauce, remove apple skins with a fork.
