  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp grount nutmeg
  • Icing
  • 1/2 sup butter
  • 3 tablespoon milk
  • 1 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Step 1

grease and flour a 13X9 inch baking pan. Put oats in mixing bowl and pour the boiling water over them and set aside for 20 minutes. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine the shortening sugar and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Beat well with an electric mixer adding the soaked oatmeal. In a separate bowl sift together the floour, baking soda, salt,cinnamon,and nutmeg. Beat them into the wet mixture until the batter is evenly mixed. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
