Ingredients

  • 1 to 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • '1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 small cabbage, chopped
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz. each) diced tomatoes
  • l can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 cup of uncooked rice (If desired) See note below

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a big skillet (use medium heat) Saute the onions until tender, and then add the ground beef (or turkey) until the meat is browned.
Add garlic, cook an additional minute before adding the remaining ingredients. (This is the point you would add the rice Bring them to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer about 25 minutes (or until cabbage is quite fork tender).

Note: If you want it less soupy you need to add 1 cup of (uncooked rice) and it will absorb the water (and extend the servings, making it even more budget friendly!)
