Ingredients
- CRUST:
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter
- 2 egg yolks, beaten
- FILLING:
- 4 cups pared, cored and sliced apples
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 egg whites, slightly beaten
Preparation
Step 1
1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt; cut in butter as for pie crust. Mix in egg yolks (mixture will be crumbly). Press half of the mixture in bottom of 15X10-inch jelly roll pan (may use 9X13 inch pan). Set remaining half of the mixture aside. Combine all of the filling ingredients except egg whites; arrange over bottom crust. Crumble remaining crust mixture over filling. Brush egg whites over all. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes (jelly roll pan) or 40 minutes (9X13-inch pan). Cool. Drizzle with thin confectioners sugar glaze, if desired.
