Hostess Caramels

Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar (383 g.)
  • 1 c. butter (not margarine) (230 g.)
  • 2 c. whipping cream (487 g.)
  • 1 3/4 c. white syrup (414 ml.)
  • 1 1/2 T. vanilla (23 g.)

Preparation

Step 1

Use part of butter to grease bottom & sides of lg. microwave dish. Put all but vanilla in pan. Microwave on high for 33 min. or until 244° on candy thermometer. (Microwaves vary greatly so watch closely first time!)
Add vanilla, stir quickly, & pour into buttered cake pan. Cool. Cut in squares & wrap in wax paper.
You can cook over stove on high to 210° & switch to medium & cook to 244°. Add vanilla & follow other directions
