Ingredients
- 1 brownie mix (15-1/2 oz.)
- 1 quart vanilla ice cream
- 5 egg whites, at room temperature
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 3/4 cup sugar

Prepare brownie mix according to package directions, baking in greased 11" x 7-1/2" pan 20-25 minutes or until finger leaves light indentation when lightly pressed on cake. Cool in pan on rack.
Cut into 8 pieces each about 3-1/2", place on baking sheet. Working quickly cut ice cream into 8 slices, place on top of brownies, trim to fit and freeze until firm 2-1/2-3 hours.
In small bowl beat egg whites until foamy, add cream of tartar and beat until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Remove brownies from freezer and quickly spread with meringue mixture, being carefully to cover brownies completely. Return to freezer until serving time.
Bake in 475 degree oven 3-4 minutes or until meringue is golden brown. Serve at once.
