Turkey Dressing in Slow Cooker
Double this recipe for family events. Can chop onion & celery day before.
- 8 c bread cubes or stuffing mix
- 1/2 c chopped onion
- 1/2 c chopped celery
- 1/2 c butter
- 2 c chicken or turkey broth (more if needed to keep moist)
- 1 t salt
- 1 1/2 t poultry seasoning
- 1/4 t pepper
- 1 1/2 bags sage
For turkey broth cook neck, heart & gizzard in salted water simmering slowly 1 hr until tender. Liver may be added for last 30 min. Remove meat from neck & dice giblets. Add water as needed to make 2 c & return diced meat to broth.
Chopped onion & celery can be done day before, placed in covered container & refrigerated until ready to use.
Prepare bread cubes & place in lg mixing bowl. Melt butter in skillet. Sauté onion & celery & pour over bread cubes. Add seasonings & toss together. Moisten with broth combining lightly but well. Pack lightly in slow cooker; cover & set on high for 1 hr. Turn to low & cook another 30-45 min until done.
