Old Fashioned Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 c uncooked elbow macaroni (12oz)
  • 1/4 c butter, cubed
  • 1/4 c all purpose flour
  • 1 t salt
  • 3/4 t ground mustard
  • 1/2 t pepper
  • few dashes hot sauce
  • 3 1/2 c milk
  • 5 c (20 oz) shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Step 1

Cook macaroni in boiling water until almost tender and drain. Meanwhile, in a dutch oven, melt butter. Stir in the flour, salt, mustard, pepper and pepper sauce until smooth. Cook for 1 min or until bubbly. Stir in the macaroni, milk and 4 c cheese.

Transfer to an ungreased 13x9 pan. Cover and bake at 350 for 45-50 min or until bubbly. Uncover and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Let stand for 5 min before serving.
