Funnel Cakes

Not sure who gave me this recipe. Never made it. Got it while living in San Diego.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder

Preparation

Step 1

Beat egg and add milk.

Sift flour, salt, sugar, backing powder and baking soda together. To these add egg and milk. Beat until smooth.

Holding your fingers over the bottom of the funnel, pour some batter into the funnel. Drop batter into hot deep fat (375 degrees), swirling it intocircles from teh center out. Fry until golden brown. Turn once during cooking.

Drain on paper and serve with powdered sugar sprinkled on top.

Note: Funnel should have 5/8 inch opening.
