Ingredients
- 1 package yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 t salt
- 1 cup scalded milk
- 4 - 4 1/2 cups sifted flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 7 T melted butter
- Filling
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 t cinnamon
- Grated rind of 1 large orange
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- Topping
- 4 of original 7 T melted butter
- 4 T light corn syrup
Preparation
Step 1
Dissolve yeast in water.
Combine shortening, sugar and salt in large bowl.
Add scalded milk. Stir until shortening melts. Cool to lukewarm.
Beat in 1 cup of flour in the eggs.
Add softened yeast and oats and blend.
Stir in enough additional flour to make a soft dough.
Turn out on lightly floured surface. Form into a ball.
Place in a greased bowl, brush lightly with 1 T melted butter. Cover, let rise (1 1/2 hours).
Punch dough down. Turn out on lightly greased surface and cover. Let rest 10 minutes.
Divide dough in half. Roll 1/2 to form rectangle, 12X16 inch.
Brush with 1 T of the melted butter. Sprinkle with half of orange filling.
Roll dough as for jelly roll.
Cut in 8 - 2" slices.
Repeat for other half.
In each of two 8X2 round pans, place half with the melted butter (2T) and 1/2 of corn syrup, mix well.
Sprinkle with half of filling.
Place eight slices of dough, cut side down, in each pan. Cover.
Let rise in warm place (about 45 minutes.
Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
Remove immediately.
