Apple Butter in the Slowcooker
By Addie
Ever made homemade apple butter?
It’s super easy. I didn’t link this recipe up to Ingredient Spotlight: Apples on Wednesday, because it actually doesn’t start with apples.
You cheat and use store bought apple sauce. The slow cooker does all the work, and you get the credit. This makes a great gift too!
Check out the apple butter recipe here. It’s one of my favorite cheats. And you know how I like a good cheat.
Ingredients
- 8 cups applesauce (I used 2 46-oz jars)
- 4 cups sugar
- 4 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons allspice (not in photo)
- 2 teaspoons. nutmeg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cloves
Preparation
Step 1
Stir all the ingredients together in the slow cooker. Cook uncovered on high for 6-7 hours. Don’t stir during that time, just enjoy how wonderful your house smells.
The apple butter will cook down quite a bit. After the cooking time, put it in a metal bowl and set in a sink or bowl of ice water to bring the temperature down. Store in jars or zip top plastic bags in the refrigerator or freeze for later.
I put the apple butter in my stand mixer bowl to cool it down.
