Apple Scrounge

  • 8

Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled and cored apple slices (about 6 to 7 medium-sized apples)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1 cup apple cider or juice
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Coat 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

Place apple slices in prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with nuts, drizzle with honey, and pour cider on top.

In medium-sized bowl, make topping by cutting butter into flour (working together with a fork) until coarse like cornmeal; mix in salt, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Sprinkle topping over apples.

Bake, covered, for 30 minutes or until apples are soft. Uncover and bake for 10 additional minutes, or until the edges turn light golden brown. Serve warm.

Notes:
For an extra-special treat, put a little ice cream or sour cream on top before serving.
