Ingredients
- 3 lbs beef brisket (1/2 of a whole)
- 2 TBSP flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 3 TBSP lard or drippings (shortening)
- 1 cup water
- For gravy -
- 3-4 TBSP flour
- 2 cups water
Preparation
Step 1
Dredge brisket with mixture of 2 TBSP flour, salt, pepper, and paprika. Brown meat slowly in lard or drippings. Pour off drippings. Add water, cover closely and cook slowly for 3 hours, or until tender. When tender, remove to hot platter.
Make gravy as follows:
Stir 3 TBSP flour into cooking liquid, add water and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. More flour may be added if necessary. 6-8 servings.
