Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

• 1 cup butter
• 1 1/2 cups sugar
• 3 eggs
• 1 t vanilla
• 3 1/2 cups flour
• 2 t cream of tartar
• 1 t baking soda
• 1/3 t salt
• lemon extract ( optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each one. Add vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and add gradually to creamed mixture. Chill dough overnight. Roll on well floured surface 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut in desired shapes. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 6 - 8 minutes..

ICING:
1 lb box powdered sugar
1 stick butter, softened
1 t vanilla
1/4 cup milk
1/2 t salt
Mix all ingredients together with mixer and add food color if desired.
