Preparation

Step 1

Mix salt in 1 cup of warm water, stir until salt is dissolved then add remainder of gallon using cold water and stir.

Peel and core apples, cut into desired slices or wedges. If going to make fried apples, I leave the skin on and just core and cut apples into about 8 wedges each. If freezing for pies later, I peel and slice very thin slices. Put apple slices in salt water, making sure all apples are covered. Let soak for a few minutes, stir and soak a few more. Drain and put in freezer bags, I use vacuum bags. Ziplock has a great little cheap vacuum in with their freezer bag section at most groceries. They are great!! and they have quart and gallon size bags. Food stays much better without getting all the ice crystals on them.
You can take the apples straight from freezer to use in recipes and no they don't taste salty or make your recipe salty :)
