Mom's Barbecued Beef (AKA: Sloppy Joe's)

This recipe, from my Mother, is the halved version. You can easily double it and freeze the other half for an easy weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbs butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 2 Tbs lemon juice
  • 1 Tbs brown sugar
  • 1/2 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 7 oz Ketchup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 Tbs cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard

Preparation

Step 1

1. In larger skillet, melt butter and sauté onion and celery.

2. Add ground beef and sauté until lightly browned. Drain excess fat.

3. Add remaining ingredients and stir well to incorporate.

4. Simmer for 30 minutes.

5. Serve on your favorite bun.
