Fruit Flies - Getting rid of fruit flies
By Hklbrries
Dear Heloise: I recently returned home from vacation to discover that I had left a banana on the kitchen counter. Now I have a huge flock of fruit flies in my house. HELP!

What a welcome home! These little pests usually are brought home with fresh fruits and vegetables, and bananas are the most susceptible fruit. Throw out the fruit by placing it in a plastic bag and then into a garbage bag — ideally one in an outside trash container, because fruit flies will continue their life cycle in or out of the house.
For any pests left in the house, give this a try: Fill a jar with water and add a couple of glugs of vinegar and some sugar to “sweeten” the trap. Next, cover the cup with some plastic wrap, and punch a couple of very small holes in it to make a trap. Once again, vinegar to the rescue!
Wipe down a picnic table with vinegar to keep flies away during an outing. Don’t you just love vinegar? — Heloise
