Bread Crumb Topping

Perfect for topping vegetable casseroles like cauliflower or broccoli au gratin or for finishing off macaroni and cheese. (Cook's Illustrated)

Ingredients

  • 4 slices sandwich bread with crusts, each slice torn into quarters
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Pulse bread, butter, salt, and pepper in food processor until mixture resembles coarse crumbs, about ten 1-second pulses.
