Ingredients
- 2 1/2 . C sugar
- 1 . C buttermilk
- 4 . Eggs
- 2 c jam
- 2 . T cinnamon
- 1 t cloves
- 1 t salt
- 1 . C shortening
- 1 t baking soda dissolved in milk
- 1 c applesauce
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 t allspice
- 1 t nutmeg

Preparation
Step 1
Sift dry ingredients, except soda. Cream sugar and shortening, add applesauce and eggs. Mix well. Add dry ingredients alternating with milk and soda mixture. Start with flour and end with flour. Mix well and add jam. Bake at 350 for 40 min.
Caramel Icing
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup oleo
1. 14 oz pkg caramels
3/4 c milk
1 t vanilla
Cook first 4 ingredients till reaches soft ball stage. Turn heat off and add caramels. Beat until thick enough to spread.
