Dinner Rolls

My favorite roll recipe – originally from Quick Cooking Magazine.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water (70-80 degrees)
  • 2 Tablespoons butter, cut in smaller pieces
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/4 cup bread flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon yeast

Preparation

Step 1

Put in bread machine in order suggested by manufacturer. Select dough setting (check dough after 5 min. of mixing, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water if too dry or flour if too wet.) After cycle is complete, divide dough into 16 small portions; shape each into a ball. Place on greased baking sheets. Let rise until doubled. Bake at 375 degres for 12-15 minutes or until light golden brown. If desired, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt. If you make 8-10 large rolls, these work well for hamburger buns.
