Ingredients
- 3 pounds of apples, scrubbed, cored, and sliced into thick slices
- 3/4 cup unsweetened apple juice
- 6 whole cloves
- 1/2 te. Cinnamon
- 1/2 te. Allspice
- 2 tb. firmly packed dark brown sugar
- kosher sweet red wine (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
1) Combine all ingredients except the wine in a pot.
2) Bring to a boil.
3) Reduce the heat to simmering. Partially cover and cook for 20 minutes stirring twice during this time.
4) Remove from heat, cover tightly and let stand for 15 minutes. Then uncover and let stand for 5 minutes.
5) Put into your food processor and chop for a very short time since you want the applesauce to be chunky.
6) Serve warm or chilled with small glasses of the wine on the side to sip and/or pour into the applesauce if desired.
