  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter softened
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 5 large egg whites room temp
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups AP flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • Chocolate butter cream recipe



Step 1

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flout the bottom and 1/2 in up sides of two 8 inch round cake pans

2. Beat butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium high speed until creamy, 1-2 minutes, gradually beat in sugar. Reduce mixer to medium speed and continue beating for 3 minutes. Gradually beat in egg whites and vanilla

3. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl; mix well. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to sugar mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture, beating on low speed after each addition

4. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake until a toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean, 25-30 minutes. Cool cakes in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes. Remove cakes from pans; cool completely on wire racks

5. Place 1 cake layer on a serving plate; spread top with ¾ cup frosting. Place second cake layer on frosting. Frost side and top of cake with remaining frosting
