Submarine Buns

This bun is also known as a hero, hoagie, grinder or, in New Orleans, a muffaletta.

Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp granulated sugar
- 3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour
- 1 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast
Preparation
Step 1
Measure ingredients into baking pan, liquids first. Select the Dough Cycle.
Remove dough to a lightly floured surface; cover with a large bowl and let rest for 10 to 15 mins.
Divide the dough into 6 equal portions, and form into slightly flattened 12 inch long buns.
Place on a baking sheet and let rise in a warm, draft-free place for 30 to 45 mins, until doubled in volume.
Bake in oven preheated to 350°F for 15 mins or until buns sound hollow when tapped on from the bottom.
