Date-Sausage Bites

Ingredients

  • 1/2 of a 17.3-oz package frozen puff pastry
  • 6 oz uncooked maple-flavor pork sausage
  • 1/2 c chopped pitted dates
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/4 t dried sage, crushed
  • 1/8 t crushed red pepper
  • 1/8 t black pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350. Let puff pastry stand at room temp for 20 mins or until thawed. Unfold the pastry. Cut along folds, making 3 rectangles; set aside.
For filling, in a med bowl combine sausage, dates, garlic powder, sage, red pepper, and black pepper. Spread about 1/4 c filling lengthwise down half of each pastry rectangle to within 1/2 in of one long edge. Fold the other long side of pastry over meat mixture; pinch edges to seal. cut filled pastries into 1-in pieces. Place the pieces, pastry sides down, on an ungreased 15x10x1-in baking pan. Bake 20 mins or until golden brown. Serve warm.
