Ingredients

  • 3

    cups homemade buttermilk

  • 1/2

    cup white sugar

  • 2-1/4

tsp active dry yeast (one package)

  • 1/2

    cup butter, melted

  • 2

    eggs, well beaten

  • 1

    tsp baking soda

  • 1

    tsp salt

  • 8

    cups flour

Directions

Mix the first 2 ingredients together. Dissolve the yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Let mixture stand for 15 minutes, then add the cooled melted butter and eggs. Sift soda, salt and 4 cups of flour together and add to the yeast mixture. Beat batter until smooth. Add remaining flour, stirring with spoon, until dough is thick enough to handle with hands. Knead for 8 to 10 minutes and let rise. Make buns the size desired. PREHEAT oven to 400 degrees. When doubled in size, bake buns for 25 to 30 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. When done, rub the tops with a little butter and dig in.
