Oat Apple Crisp

By

A package of yellow cake mix sets this tasty crisp apart from others. Serve it a la mode for an extra special treat. —Ruby Hodge, Richland Center, Wisconsin

REVIEWS:

I also doubled the recipe and used 10 apples. I did however use only 1 cup of sugar. Everyone loved it. Definitely a keeper.

Absolutely fabulous!!! My husband said he might like it better than my apple pie and apple pie is his favorite!!! Will def make again.

This has become my new favorite apple crisp recipe. It lasted less than a day in my house and I love the crunchy topping. I too use an 18oz cake mix and use half. Tastes sooo..... good warm with vanilla ice cream. To die for! Will make again and again! I used Gala and Empire apples together.

Add 3/4 cup chopped pecans to this and NO WHITE SUGAR. The cake mix is sweet enough. The pecans will make it crunchy and it taste so good. I make this all of the time.

I always add chopped pecans to my Apple Crisp Recipe at home. The pecans give it that extra crunch. So, I added it to this recipe too!

This recipe was absolutely fantastic! I made it for Christmas Eve and my family loved it!! So easy to make, and so delicious. I can't wait to make it again! You wont be disappointed with this one!

ABSOLUTELY!!! Love it over and over! :)

I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a huge hit with everyone. I didn't quite double the recipe, but since I needed a little more than 8 servings, I kind of winged it on increasing everything by a little bit. Worked out well and I'll definitely be making this again!

Easy to make and tastes great!! It is a hit with my family.

Made this last night. I was concerned about the comments about it being too sweet so I used Grannie Smith apples and added an extra half-cup of oats(old fashioned for extra texture). Talk about awesome!!! Had a little left over -- had it cold this morning. I like it better warm -- next time I'll nuke it. Will definitely make again.

AMAZING ! a little sweet yes,, but if you test your apples first you can decide how much sugar you want. LOVE IT !

I would make this recipe again. I used Granny Smith apples, doubled the recipe, put into a 9X13 pan and cut the white sugar in half. Next time I would cut the brown sugar in at least half too. The topping is the part that is way too sweet.

I took this dessert to a family function and everyone there truly enjoyed it. The highest compliment was from the young man who owns his own catering service and wanted the recipe because it was the "best" apple crisp he said he has ever had. I did cut down on the sugar and I doubled the recipe with 10 apples and doubling the rest of the ingredients to put it in a 9 x 13 pan. It worked out fantastically.

I thought it was very good. I used Granny Smith apples and a large cake mix (in Canada everything is in metric and I didn't convert the measurement before I got to the store). My kids loved it!!

This was by far the best apple crisp recipe i have ever had. It was sweet but it was so very good. It lasted less than 24 hours in our house. Definitely will make this again!!!

Very tasty, but I agree with many reviewers: it's way too sweet. I reduced the first sugar measurement to 3/4 cup, but it was still too sweet. Next time I'll reduce it to half a cup and use tart apples instead of sweeter apples. Overall, the crisp had great flavor, but was still too sweet. I was not able to locate a 9 oz. box of cake mix, to had to use half of an 18.25 oz. box. Jiffy cake mixes are not available in all areas.

Absolutely phenomenal! I always bake with honeycrisp apples. This recipe is so unique and tasty. It will definitely be a fall desert for my household from now on!

Such an easy but delicious dessert to serve even to company. It was a big hit after dinner.

The cake mix in this receipe makes this apple crisp very sweet. I was a little disappointed. I won't be using this receipe again.

I didn't have apples, so I used peaches. Yummm!! Even better cold than warm.

I was very disappointed in this recipe. I guess I was expecting a more traditional taste. The "crisp" part was so sweet you couldn't even taste the fruit. I guess I'm the odd one out.

My husband enjoyed this apple crisp very much. I accidentally used an 18 ounce box of yellow cake mix. I was wondering why it seemed like there was not enough butter to make it "sprinkle". Next time I will pay more attention. I like making a variety of different apple recipes in the fall. I will definitely add this to my repetoir.

This was not a good recipe. Way too much sugar...couldn't taste the apples.

All I can say is YUMMMMM!!!! Husband loves it and I am taking some to my Bible Study Friend tomorrow, can't wait to hear how much she and her husband loved it!

In the oven now, looks yummy!!! will let you know...

Question for more experienced cooks: how do you keep topping from getting soggy next day? I made with fresh peaches and day after had a gooey mess.

Everyone in my family loved it. I used rolled oats instead of quick cooking for more crunch.

I make some changes to recipe. I used granola instead of oats. Cherry craisins in place of the cranberries and I also added a 9 oz. box of Jiffy yellow cake mix. I hope you enjoy my version!

Second time this season! A keeper!

One of the best apple crisp recipes I have found. Will make apple crisp with this recipe from now on. I found that Jiffy makes a 9 oz. golden yellow cake mix, works great. Definite 5 stars!
