- 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup sliced almonds
- 1 tablespoon water

Cover baking sheets with foil and grease the foil. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cover a stick, dowel or long handle spoon handle with foil.
In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg and almond extract. Beat in the flour until light. Stir in the sliced almonds and water.
Spoon 1 rounded tablespoonful of dough at a time onto a baking sheet, spacing the cookies 4 inches apart. Flatten with a spoon dipped in water to about a 3-inch diameter. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes just until the edges begin to brown and the cookies have spread out. Remove from the oven. with a thin spatula, loosen cookies. Lift onto a rack to cool or drape cookies over the foil-covered stick so the cookies bend into a U-shape as they cool.
