Family-Favorite Cheeseburger Pasta
By Addie
I created this recipe to satisfy a cheeseburger craving. What a delicious, healthy classic! —Raquel Haggard, Edmond, Oklahoma (Taste of Home)
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups uncooked penne pasta
- 3/4 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
- 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
- 2 tablespoons prepared mustard
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 3/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- Chopped green onions, optional
Preparation
Step 1
Cook pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Drain pasta; add to meat mixture.
Stir in the tomatoes, relish, mustard, ketchup, steak seasoning and seasoned salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes.
Sprinkle with cheese. Remove from the heat; cover and let stand until cheese is melted. Garnish with green onions if desired. Yield: 4 servings.

I've been making this for over a year with great results. Everyone loves it and I've given the recipe to dozens of people. One of my tweaks which I didn't see mentioned in the comments is that I use plum tomatoes and salsa in place of the canned tomatoes. Either way, though, it's delicious, and a very easy way to eat healthy because it's just SO good!
It really does taste like a cheeseburger!
Excellent! This has become a new requested dish by the family.
I thought it was very good! I would make it again!
We didn't think that this dish was actually going to be any good. It turned out okay and my brother loved it. It tastes very much like a cheeseburger and a little to much like one for my taste. Still, will still make this again.
I have made this recipe several times and my family loves it!!! It's noting fancy but it's easy and flavorful (the relish, I feel, really makes this dish)!!! I too add a little bit more relish when I make this.
PS: I didn't have steak seasoning on hand, so I just used regular steak sauce.
Great! I changed a couple of things to give it more flavor. Instead of just diced tomatoes, I used diced tomatoes with green chilies. I also added a little more salt and a couple more tablespoons ketchup!
My substitutes (because it's what I had on hand): elbow macaroni and 1 T Worcesterchire Sauce instead of steak sauce). My changes: 2 cups of pasta, 1/2 onion and 2/3 c. Costco bacon pieces and 3 T dill relish. Results: two picky kids (4 and 7) who ate their whole meal and a husband who said to put the recipe on our "do again" list. This was great and is bound to become a family classic for us.
My picky 3 yr old loves this! I make it often she eats it up every time! I use 100% whole wheat pasta to try and boost the fiber.
I saw this on my mom's desk over Thanksgiving and knew we had to try it. Finally worked tonight to make it. I just used regular elbow macaroni, as that is what I had on hand. I also didn't use the seasoning mentioned. I went ahead and doubled it hoping it turned out good so leftovers could be had over the weekend. It definitely tasted like a cheeseburger. I think it could use more condiments though to really make it pop. I like the no salt added tomatoes to keep the salt from being overbearing. Will make again, but maybe with some tweaks. I had some bites that were kinda blah and some that were delish.
I have been making this recipe for several months and make it twice a month. It is very simple and flavorful.
Not a big hit at our house. Made as per recipe, with GF Penne. Easy, but just average for us, sorry. But it did taste like a cheeseburger.
Didn't add the relish or onion, but a little more mustard & ketchup. Love the flavor!
This is sooooo good!!!
Love this recipe! I use 2 cups of pasta though, and a full pound of meat. I also use more onion because my family likes it. Great quick and easy dish that uses ingredients that I always have handy! My brother asks me to make it for him all the time!
