Ingredients
- 1/4 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- hot fat for frying
- powdered sugar
Preparation
Step 1
In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar together; add the eggs and beat until light. Blend in the cream of tartar and cardamom. Add flour to make a stiff, smooth dough. Chill until firm, about 1 hour.
Using 2 tablespoons of the dough at a time, shape the dough into strands about 5 inches long. Shape into knots.
Heat the fat to 375 degrees. Fry the cookies until golden, turning once. Drain. Dust with powdered sugar.
