Chocolate Chip Scones
By Addie
“These scones were one of the first things I learned to bake. They’re simple to mix, and the dough requires no rolling.”
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup plus 2 teaspoons granulated sugar, divided
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup (11/3 sticks) butter
- 1 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon half-and-half, divided
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Spray baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray.
Combine flour, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl and mix well. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender. Add chocolate chips and mix well.
Combine 3/4 cup half-and-half and egg in a small bowl and mix well. Stir into the flour mixture.
Drop batter by 2 1/2 tablespoonfuls 11/2 inches apart onto prepared baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a greased spatula.
Brush with the remaining half-and-half. Sprinkle with the remaining granulated sugar. Bake until golden, about 10 to 12 minutes.
